We are Oliver H. Osborne, RN, PhD, and Julianne Nason, and we bought the Corner House in 1985. Almost as old as the century, it needed a year’s worth of major remodeling and renovation. We then opened a small B&B in the north wing of the second floor. We ran the B&B while we worked, bought an old house in Spain and renovated it, and traveled as much as we could. Julianne—by nature and training a feckless English major—retired as writer-editor and marketing services manager for a start-up provider of hospital information systems, and became an occasional consultant to public affairs and high-tech firms. In 1996, Oliver retired as professor emeritus from teaching psychosocial nursing and anthropology at the University of Washington. This exalted status gives him free parking on campus for the rest of his life, a privilege only a local can fully appreciate. In celebration, we closed the B&B and began spending more time in Spain, on the road, and with our grandchildren, who now number eight.

For many years, our sisters lived with us in separate units upstairs and down. In December 2006, they both moved to be closer to their families, and we began our second major renovation. We decided to reopen our B&B now that our travels are more predictable and our next-door niece and nephew can spell us as needed, so the Corner House B&B wing has been renovated and refurnished.
